Apicectomy

An Apicectomy is a minor surgical procedure to remove the tip of the tooth root (apex) and any infected tissue surrounding it. This is usually done when a root canal treatment hasn’t been successful or can’t be done.

Here’s what you can expect during the procedure:

– We’ll numb the area with local anesthesia so you won’t feel any pain.
– We’ll make a small incision in the gum to access the tooth root.
– We’ll remove the infected tip of the root and any infected tissue.
– We’ll fill the root canal with a special material to seal it and prevent further infection.
– We’ll close the incision with sutures.
– The area will heal, and we can then restore the tooth with a crown or filling.

The procedure is usually quick, taking about 30-60 minutes, and is done in our office. You might experience some swelling and discomfort after the procedure, but this can be managed with pain medication and ice packs.

The goal of an Apicectomy is to relieve pain, prevent further infection, and save the tooth from extraction. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to ask!”
